Some words to say at the beginning, this week we would like to have a column about Beauty of Vertical Garden. Everyday we will publish an article under this topic. Today we’ll see something about herb. Go and see!
Are you going to Scarborough Fair
Parsley sage rosemary and thyme…
I bet you have heard this lyrics before. It’s from a famous English song, Scarborough Fair, singing by Sarah Brightman. When i first encountered this song, I was deeply impressed by the herbs it mentioned: parsley, sage, rosemary and thyme. The melody and her sweet voice give me a feeling of romantic. Since then when it comes to herbs, I have always connected it with the word “romantic”. More fascinatingly, they have different pleasant smell and can be used for flavoring and garnishing food. For gardening lovers, herbs are relatively easy to grow with various types to choose. Imagine that after you cook a dish, go to your balcony and pick your own-grown herbs, and then add it to your dish. It will definitely be a happiness in your daily life.
Enjoy herbs in vertical garden
If you don’t have much space to grow, enjoy all your favorite herbs with a hanging herb garden. Hanging planters help you add new life to your vertical space. You may worry about whether herbs can be grown well in this way. Basically, as long as you provide proper growing conditions and drainage, most types of them can be successfully grown to build a vertical garden in your house.
Here are some common herbs for you to start with.
HERB 1: Creeping rosemary
Rosemary is an attractive evergreen shrub with needle-like leaves and pretty blue flowers. The flowers can persist through spring and summer, filling the air with a nice piney fragrance. It is a cascading herb, making it perfect for pots and hanging baskets than other rosemary types.
HERB 2: Thyme
Choose a creeping variety of thyme for your hanging basket. Creeping Thyme will spill over the sides of the basket, creating a green waterfall for you.
HERB 3: Winter Savory
Winter savory is a fast-growing herb and it can grow to about 12 inches high but can be harvested as soon as it reaches about 5 inches.
